Holness: sovereignty not for sale

by October 31st, 2018

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the country’s sovereignty is not for sale.

The Prime Minister says this is a non-negotiable which will always be a priority.

The sentiments come after reports circulated stated that the Chinese have been pumping billions of dollars worth of loans into the country to fund major infrastructure projects.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony for Jamaica china goodwill infant school this morning, Mr. Holness pointed out that both parties have all always ensured that mutual respect is maintained and the people to people relationship between both countries is always increasing.

He notes that it would be ridiculous not to engage with the second largest economy in the world.

The Prime Minister also describes the government’s relationship with the Chinese as beneficial to both parties.

He says the government has made a commitment to reduce its indebtedness.
