Jamaica’s first international boxing star ‘Bunny’ Grant is dead.

It’s understood that grant, was only released from hospital on Tuesday of this week, after being admitted on October 23 with a second stroke.

Born George Leslie grant on September 29, 1940, Grant fought as a featherweight /super featherweight/light welterweight/welterweight and light middleweight boxer during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970.

Grant won the Jamaican lightweight title, Jamaican welterweight title, Central American light welterweight title, Latin American junior welterweight title and the British Commonwealth lightweight title.

Grant became the first Jamaican to challenge for a world title in 1964 when he met Eddie Perkins for the junior middleweight title however he lost the bout by a 15 round unanimous decision.

At the end of his 19 year career in 1977 Grant retired with a ring record of 52 wins, 15 losses and 5 draws from 73 fights.
