Popular St Ann party goer “Dog Rice” killed in accident; man who allegedly caused crash warned for prosecution

The driver involved in a motor vehicle collision in St. Ann today (Nov 3) which left a popular social media personality dead, is likely to be charged in relation to the death.

The victim has been identified as 19 year old Samantha Herle, otherwise known as “Dog Rice” of Runaway Bay.

Head of the St. Ann police Senior Superintendent Michael Smith says the driver of a car, which collided in the rear of the vehicle Herle was travelling in, causing her to be thrown through the windscreen, has been warned for prosecution.

SSP Smith also notes that, that same driver was involved in a minor accident minutes before the one involving Herle, and that he allegedly drove away from that scene, in a bid to escape prosecution.

Reports from the Ocho Rios police are that about 6:25 a.m., the motor car transporting Herle was travelling from Ocho Rios to St. Ann’s Bay.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, in the vicinity of Dolphin Cove, and hit an embankment.

Herle sustained several injuries and was assisted to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, while undergoing treatment.

The driver was not injured.

Herle’s death brings the number of persons killed on the nation’s roadways today, to five.

Meanwhile, Director of the Road Safety Unit, Kenute Hare says passengers, as well as drivers, must always wear a seatbelt when traversing the nation’s roadways.

He says he is concerned that the goal of under 300 road fatalities for the year will not be met, as today’s incidents bring that number to 296.

The director continues to implore road users to exercise caution on the nation’s roadway
