RSU suggests retraining of trailer drivers following crash on NS Highway

by November 9th, 2018

The Road Safety Unit (RSU) the Transport Ministry is suggesting that drivers of heavy duty vehicles be re-educated on how to operate safely in the traffic environment.

This follows a fatal crash involving a trailer along the Edward Seaga Highway in Mammee Bay, St. Ann, this morning (Nov 9).

Three people were aboard the ill-fated vehicle when it got out of control, overshot the escape lane, overturned, and caught fire.

The trailer was laden with blocks.

Dead is 63 year old Wendell Barrett of Moneague, St. Ann. He was a passenger in the vehicle.

The driver and a female passenger who received injuries, were taken to hospital for treatment.

Director of the Road Safety Unit, Kenute Hare, says excessive speeding was a factor in this morning’s accident.

He says the driver failed to engage a lower gear, when the horrific accident occurred.
