Loyola Marymount stun Georgetown at Jamaica Classic

Patrick Ewing last night suffered his first defeat this season as head coach of Georgetown University after the Hoyas went down to a 65-52 loss to Loyola Marymount on the opening day of the Jamaica Classic at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

James Batemon was the top performer with a game-high 27 points for Loyola Marymount who improved to 4-0.

Jessie Govan tallied 20 points and 11 rebounds – his first of the season – for the Hoyas who were losing for the first time in 4 games.

The Hoyas return to the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Sunday to face the South Florida Bulls. The Lions are down to face Ohio University.

Action on day one also saw Austin Peay, Campbell University and South Florida posting wins.

Austin Peay – in the first game on the day – battled to a narrow 80-78 victory over Central Connecticut thanks to Terry Taylor who compiled a game high 21 points to go along with 17 rebounds.

Campbell University ran out 66-59 winners over Florida A&M with Chris Clemons scoring a game high 27 points.

Justin Ravenel, who went 8-13 from three-point range for 25 points, was the top performer for Florida A&M.

South Florida in the meantime hammered Ohio 73-46 to record the day’s biggest win.
