OCA to determine appropriate support needed by teen boy held after murder of his mother

by December 7th, 2018

Children’s Advocate Diahann Gordon Harrison says her office is collaborating with the Westmoreland police, in the matter relating to a teen boy taken into custody, following the death of his mother.

Mrs. Gordon Harrison says the matter is being treated as a sensitive one.

The OCA is to determine the type of psycho-social care that the child will need.

The teen boy appeared in court today (Dec 7), however the outcome of the hearing is not yet known.

Mrs. Gordon Harrison says the court hearing was aimed at making arrangements for placing the child at a juvenile remand facility.

Meanwhile, residents of Berkshire in Bethel Town, Westmoreland have expressed concern for the teen boy who was taken into custody following the murder of his mother.

The residents are worried that the child will not be able to cope with the trauma of his mother’s death, the anticipated legal challenges, and the social stigma the incident may cause.

On Wednesday, 44 year old farmer, Grace McDonald also called Petrena, of Berkshire District, was at home when she was attacked.

Police, who responded to calls, found McDonald in her bedroom with multiple stab wounds and her throat slashed.

McDonalds neighbour, Keith Samuels said community members are still in shock at the incident.

He said both mother and son shared a good relationship.
