Petrojam board directed to recover funds

by December 10th, 2018

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the board of Petrojam has been given a directive to recover monies, once it’s clear that there was misuse of public funds.

The announcement by the prime minister follows the release of a damning report by the Auditor General about the management of expenditure and other issues at Petrojam.

Many have expressed outrage at the revelation that among other things, the entity spent millions of taxpayer dollars on birthday parties – one for a former chairman, and the other for the, then portfolio minister.

Mr. Holness pointed to the intent of the former minister, to pay back the money to the oil refinery.

He said the country can only benefit if it’s established that there has to be a principle of restitution.

Mr. Holness also commented on media reports, of the acceptance of the former energy minister, Dr. Andrew Wheatley of the document from the Auditor General.
