Hope blazes half century to lead Windies to victory over Bangladesh

The West Indies have opened the three match T20 International series with an 8 wickets victory over Bangladesh in Sylhet.

The home team batting first was bowled out for 129 with captain Shakib Al Hasan getting 61 against Man of The Match Sheldon Cotterel who grabbed 4-28.

Keemo Paul chipped in with 2-23 while there was a wicket each for Oshane Thomas, Carlos Braithwaite and Fabian Allen.

The Windies in reply eased to 130-2 in 10.5 overs thanks to Shai Hope who blazed the third fastest T20I half-century – a quick-fire 55 from 23 balls that included 6 sixes and 3 fours.

The Windies, who raced to 91-1 in the sixth over, equalled the highest score in the power-play alongside Australia, Netherlands and Ireland.

Hope reached his fifty off 16 balls, behind Yuvraj Singh (12 balls) and Colin Munro (14 balls).

He also shared in an opening stand of 51 with the returning Evin Lewis who fell for 18 off 11 balls and also put on 47 off 26 balls with Nicholas Pooran (23 not out) to secure victory.

The teams now turn their attentions to the second match in the series in Dhaka on Thursday.
