Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Dayton Campbell is accusing Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton of being derelict in his duty, regarding the dengue fever situation.

This reaction follows the health minister’s confirmation today (Jan 3) of a dengue outbreak in the country, months after Dr. Campbell pointed out the danger.

Dr. Campbell noted that dengue is confirmed after doing tests, but the ministry was not doing the tests.

He lamented that many persons suffered and died from dengue fever, in some cases, due to being uninformed about the seriousness of the virus, and taking improper medication.

He said a team from the opposition will be visiting the Bustamante Hospital for Children, sometime next week.

Many of the reported cases of dengue fever are from that facility.

Dr. Campbell said patients with symptoms are now in the intensive care unit at the hospital.
