Schools to get attention for dengue mitigation

by January 4th, 2019

With schools set to reopen next week, the Health Ministry says educational institutions across the island will be targeted in response to the recent spike in dengue fever cases.

Yesterday (Jan 3), the Health Ministry announced that there was an outbreak of dengue fever.

The announcement came three weeks after the ministry revealed that the country was experiencing an almost 200 percent increase in dengue cases, compared to the corresponding period in 2017.

Speaking in an interview with Irie FM News, Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton noted that while the ministry is targeting vulnerable areas, schools are part of the overall plan.

The minister noted that formal communication will be sent to parents to sensitize them about the outbreak.
