Holness: We are not yet out of the woods

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says despite the reductions in murders and shootings the country is not out of the woods

The states of emergency in the corporate area expired on January 2, yesterday in the St. Catherine north division and the SOE in St. James will expire on January 31.

The Prime Minister spoke in parliament outlining the success of the states of emergency.

1,287 persons were murdered last year, which is 21.9% less than that recorded in 2017, and 22.3% fewer shootings were recorded in 2018 compared with 2017 which had 1154 instances recorded.

The Prime Minister says the criminal elements still retain the capacity, capability and the intent.

He states that the government will use all resources at its disposal
