Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for their upcoming ODIs against Australia

by January 8th, 2019

India have announced Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for their upcoming ODIs against Australia after the seamer starred in his country’s historic Test series victory.

Bumrah was included in India’s initial squad when it was announced last month, but the BCCI has now opted to withdraw the 25-year-old from consideration in a bid to keep him fresh for the home series with Australia.

India secured a first-ever Test series win in Australia on Monday, with Bumrah the leading wicket-taker across the four matches as he claimed 21 dismissals.

He is also the ICC’s top-ranked ODI bowler but will not be involved in the three 50-over contests against Australia or the following ODI and Twenty/20 fixtures in New Zealand.

Mohammed Siraj, yet to make an ODI appearance for India, has replaced Bumrah in the squad while Siddarth Kaul has been called up for the T20s against the Black Caps.

Bumrah could return when India host Australia in five ODIs and two T20s in February and March.
