Jamaica’s partners support Petrojam takeover

by January 15th, 2019

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kamina Johnson Smith says Jamaica’s bilateral partners have shown support for the country’s move to forcibly acquire Venezuela’s 49% stake in Petrojam.

The move has been widely criticized by the Opposition People’s National Party and several other stakeholders in the country, most recently the Jamaica Council of Churches.

Responding to questions at a press conference yesterday Mrs. Johnson Smith said Jamaica made sure to partake in consultations with countries that have investment interests in the island and the majority are in support of Jamaica’s move.

She says there is no basis for the fears and concerns that are being fomented in the public domain.
