African diaspora in Jamaica / Caribbean invited to pilgrimage home to Ghana

by January 27th, 2019

Jamaicans are being invited to travel to Ghana.

The invitation was extended by Ghana’s Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Catherine Afeku, who was speaking at the Caribbean launch of “The Year  of Return Ghana 2019” in Kingston today (Jan 27).

She says Jamaica is the gateway to the Caribbean and as such, it was necessary for the launch to have occurred here.

Earlier this morning, Afeku was a guest on Irie FM’s The Africa Forum, with host Ka’Bu Ma’at Kheru, and she explained why 2019 is a very significant year for all Africans on the continent, and in the diaspora, especially the Caribbean.

2019 marks 400 years since the first slave ship left the shores of West Africa in 1619, destined for Virginia, United States.
