Jason Holder becomes no.1 Test All-rounder

by January 28th, 2019

West Indies captain Jason Holder has taken over as number one on the latest release of the ICC Rankings for Test All-rounders.

Holder’s rise to no.1 comes after his stunning performance in Barbados where he smashed a career-best 202 while claiming 2 wickets to lead West Indies to a massive 381-run win against England.

The feat sees him becoming the first West Indian to be ranked no.1 since the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers in March 1974.

The Barbadian, who became only the third man batting at no.8 or lower to score a test double-hundred, saw his all-round rating jump to a career-best 440 points to move ahead of Shakib Al Hasan and Ravindra Jadeja. West Indies teammate Roston Chase is 11th.

Holder also made gains on the batting front, jumping from 58th to a career-best 33rd.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Shane Dowrich who made 116 is up 14 spots to no.47 while Shimron Hetmyer’s scores of 81 and 31 helped him rise 11 places to no.40.

Fast bowler Kemar Roach and off-spin-bowling all-rounder Chase, who also played key roles in the memorable win over England, rose to 20th and 41st respectively among bowlers.

Top spot is held by Kagiso Rabada with Holder the highest placed West Indian at no.10 followed by Shannon Gabriel at no.12.
