All-Star forward Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans has been slapped with a $50,000 fine by the NBA.
This in response to his agent Rich Paul, revealing that Davis “wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship.”
The NBA’s statement announcing the fine cited the comments made by Paul as “an intentional effort to undermine the contractual relationship between Davis and the Pelicans.”
The $50,000 dollars represents the most that Davis, who is making over $25.4 million this season, can be fined without the player filing a grievance.
Davis has been side-lined with an injury on January 18 but could return as soon as this week.
The Pelicans plan to listen to offers on Davis but won’t make a deal before the NBA trade deadline next Thursday unless they’re offered an overwhelming package.
The Pelicans in Davis’ absence battled to a 121-116 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday.
