Constant Spring Market demolished

by March 9th, 2019

Demolition work has begun on the Constant Spring Market in Kingston.

It follows the removal of vendors after they failed in their court bid to prevent the exercise.

The building is being demolished by the contractors hired by government to widen the Constant Spring main road.

The road improvement project had been hampered by the almost 2 year long court battle, involving the vendors, and the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC).

The vendors had, in the past, been granted court injunctions, but the last injunction was lifted last month, clearing the way for the demolition.

The US $19 m Constant Spring road improvement project is part of government’s legacy projects, which are being implemented by the National Works Agency (NWA).

They represent a continuation of work to improve the island’s road network, in order to enhance the quality of life of citizens and to stimulate economic growth and development.

The Constant Spring road improvement project includes widening of the road from two to four lanes, improved traffic management, upgrading of storm-water drainage, and construction of two additional bus bays at the transportation terminal in Manor Park, St. Andrew.
