Money courier and his security escort killed by armed robbers in Montego Bay

The police have released the identities of the two men killed in this morning’s (Mar 10) armed robbery and shooting in Montego Bay, St. James.

Dead are 61-year-old security guard Canute Earle of Norwood, and 41-year-old driver/ money courier Floyd Wilson (otherwise called Tony) of Rosemount Gardens, Mount Salem, both in the parish.

Reports are that Wilson, who was the courier for a Chinese business operator in Montego Bay, had just picked up millions of dollars in cash, from a chain of outlets.

Further reports are that about 8 a.m., Earle and another security guard were travelling in a marked Hawkeye motor car that was escorting Wilson, who was driving a Toyota Hiace van with a passenger aboard.

On reaching a section of Jarrett Street, it is reported that a motor vehicle blocked the roadway and men armed with high powered guns, alighted.

The assailants allegedly opened gunfire on the Hawkeye vehicle and the Toyota Hiace van, before stealing an undetermined amount of cash.

The police were summoned and on their arrival, both security guards and Wilson were taken to hospital.

Earle and Wilson were pronounced dead while the other security guard was admitted in stable condition.

The passenger in the Hiace van was not hurt.

It’s reported that several Chinese business operators have since voiced concern that they are being frequently targeted.

The St. James police have sought to assure the Montego Bay business community, especially the Chinese nationals, that they are following strong leads in the matter and expect to make an early breakthrough.

And, the bloodletting in St. James continued with at least 2 more murders, this morning (Mar 10).

Dead are 45-year-old Allen Walters, otherwise called ‘Hot Beer’, of Hendon in Norwood St. James and 30 year-old Soneil Foskin, a construction worker of Bethel Town in Westmoreland.

In the first incident, reports are that about 8:15 a.m., Walters was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital by residents. He had a wound to his back.

He was later pronounced dead.

The police were summoned and an investigation subsequently launched.

In the other incident, reports are that about 9:00 a.m. Foskin was walking along the roadway at a section of Farm Heights known as Unity Crescent, in St. James, when he was reportedly attacked by armed men.

He was shot multiple times.

The police were summoned and Foskin was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
