Persons who fail to protect children in their care will be hauled before the courts, once legislation is passed.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller restated the plans of her administration, to draft legislation to create a new offence of Parental Neglect.

The prime minister was speaking against the backdrop of the number of reports of murder, and abuse of the nation’s children.

May is being observed as child month, under the theme “Children’s Safety and Security, our Priority”.

Mrs Simpson Miller underscored the importance of adults safeguarding the future of the nation’s children.

Mrs Simpson Miller says the legislation will make it easier to report instances of child abuse.
