Road works in East Portland halted

by March 15th, 2019

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the governing party is not using state resources to influence election outcomes.

His statement follows the halting of road works in East Portland after the intervention of the Political Ombudsman.

The Opposition had raised concern about spending on road works ahead of the by election.

Speaking to reporters at the Port Antonio court house this morning, the Prime Minister said he had received communication from the Ombudsman and that the road works have been halted.

Mr. Holness argued that the works had been approved before the campaign period.

The Prime Minister noted that, while he is in total agreement that state resources should not be used to influence an election outcome, there is the question of whether projects that are in train should be stopped for an election.
