Jamaica’s medal tally jumps to 11 after sensational golden Sunday at the Special Olympic World Games

It was a Gold medal mining day for Jamaica at the Special Olympic World Games in the United Arab Emirates.
This after the Nation’s athletes grabbed 8 medals on Sunday, which included 5 gold medals, in the gold rush to put the overall tally at 11. The breakdown 5 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze.

Skaters Dale Oddman and Sikani Green won separate gold medals in their 300 metres roller skating event. Oddman won in Division 7 and Green in division six.

Both Oddman and Green was disqualified in the men’s 2×200 metres re-lay.

Over in Dubai In the Pool swimmer Leon Barclay turned in a good fight to splash up a bronze in the men’s 50 metres breast stroke final after touch-ing the wall in 41.77 seconds shaving off 2 seconds off his personal best.

Also in swimming Kadian Ingleton finished fourth in the Open Water event in 33 minutes, 12 seconds flat.

The inspirational Delroy Sullivan came up big in his Bocce event after he collected his Gold for winning his division in the bocce men’s singles event.

And also in Dubai Sprinters Obrien Mcfarlane and Daeshawn Green won gold medals in their respective 200 metres event .

Mcfarlane won his half lap division in 24.08 seconds, while Green clocked 23.11 seconds.

However the star of the show was Kirk Wint who has built a huge fan base here in the United Arab Emirates.

 

Wint who gets around in a wheel chair and runs on both hands and feet, held off a string field to win a silver in his division of the men’s 50 metres sprint in 14.89 seconds.

The men’s unified basketball team finished group 2 unbeaten after dis-patching Finland 46-27 led by Mourice Davis who scored 19 points.

The male Volleyball team booked a spot in the gold medal game on Tuesday after today’s final set of games in the round robin phase. They defeated Bangladesh 25-21, 25 -20 after earlier losing their first game against Korea.

The Jamaicans will wait on the winner of the Japan vs Bangladesh playoff game.
