IRIE FM honours Mutabaruka this weekend

In just days, many will pay homage to world renowned dub poet Mutabaruka, IRIE FM’s 2019 recipient of its Lifetime Achievement Award.

Entertainers Sizzla Kalonji, Earl Chinna Smith, Big Yute, Tony Rebel, Pam Hall, Kenyatta Hill and Queen Ifrica are some of the entertainers slated to give musical tributes.

The event dubbed Mutabaruka, The Journey, will also see Muta perform with the Skool Band. Plus poetry, and an exhibition which chronicles his vast journey.

Other tributes and speeches will come from Danny Clarke Muta’s childhood friend, Prof I, Jean “Binta” Breeze, Muta’s children and more.

Mutabaruka All Star will tackle IRIE FM in a 5 a side football competition.

The IRIE FM Lifetime Achievement Award first awarded in February 2017, will be held on Sunday, March 24, at the Kingston Technical High School, Muta’s Alma Mater from 6am – 6pm.

Dr. Jimmy Cliff was the first recipient of IRIE FM’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017, and Bunny Wailer received the award in 2018.
