The Opposition People’s National Party says the resignation of the education minister is a tell-tale sign that all is not well in the cabinet
Ruel Reid resigned as Education Minister and as a member of the Senate following allegations of nepotism and cronyism in agencies connected to the ministry.
Caribbean Maritime University, HEART Trust, and the Education Trust have been identified among the agencies.
The Prime Minister adds that the minister’s resignation will ensure that any investigation into matters of concern will not in any way be impeded by his presence or oversight of the ministry.
The Ministry of Education, youth and information will now fall under the temporary supervision of the Office of the Prime Minister which will start its own review of the ministry and its agencies.
Opposition Leader Dr. Peter Phillips says corruption is rife in the administration.
Dr. Phillips has objected to the Ministry of Education being transferred to the Office of the Prime Minister.
He is calling for a fulsome investigation.
