Johnson Smith: Govt does not recognise Guaido

by April 12th, 2019

The Jamaican government does not recognize Juan Guiado as interim president of Venezuela.

That’s according to minister of Foreign Affairs Senator Kamina Johnson Smith.

Mrs. Johnson Smith, in addressing today’s (Apl 12) sitting of the Senate, sought to dispel claims, that voting against Nicolas Maduro’s reappointment to office, suggests that the Jamaican government observes Guaido, as interim president of Venezuela.

Mr. Guaido declared himself interim leader of Venezuela in January and has gained the support of more than 50 countries, including the USA.

The Foreign Affairs Minister, however, noted that Jamaica has acknowledged Mr. Guiado’s appointment, as elected President of the country’s national assembly.
