UCASE serves strike notice on JPS

The union representing workers at the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has issued a 72-hour strike notice on the management of the company.

The Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) says this is as a result of a break-down in the wage and fringe benefits negotiations.

The strike notice will expire on Monday, April 29.

In an interview with Irie FM News, General Secretary at UCASE John Levy says the union wrote to the management of JPS today, rejecting the latest wage offer, and requesting audience with President and CEO of JPS Emanuel Darosa.

in the meantime, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has expressed surprise regarding statements made by the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) that there is a breakdown in negotiations.

In a statement the JPS says, the last meeting with union officials was held on April 10, at which time JPS made a number of proposals.

It says, the union agreed to a scheduled meeting for next Thursday, May 2, to continue the dialogue.

According to JPS, the union leadership also indicated, that they would be discussing the proposals with the relevant staff.

JPS says, it is surprised to hear that the company has not delivered expected counter proposals, to the union.

It says its awaiting feedback on the various elements of the proposal and looking forward to meeting with UCASE on May 2.

JPS adds that it will be meeting with the union and Ministry of Labour on Monday, April 29.
