Solid progression for Jamaican teams at the IAAF World Relays in Japan

All the Jamaican teams with the exception of one made progress to the finals of their respective events on today’s opening day of the IAAF World Relays in Yokahoma Japan.

The quartet of Amoi Brown, Andrew Riley, Megan Tapper and Ronald levy clocked 55.47 seconds to win heat one of the mixed shuttle hurdles relay which was the first event of the day- however the team did not show up for the final after Andrew riley and replacement runner Norman Pittersgill were forced to withdraw due to injury.

Riley, suffered a hamstring injury, while Pittersgill went down during warm-up, after a quad problem and the event was won by United States ahead of Japan.

Prior to that the women’s 4×400 meters team of Christine Day, Shian Salmon, Tiffany James and Chrisan Gordon, made progress after finishing second in heat three in a season’s best 3 minutes 28.80 seconds behind winner Canada 3 minutes 28.25 seconds.

The men’s team of Dimesh Gaye, Akeem Bloomfield, Javon James and Nathon Allen booked their place in the final of the men’s event after finishing second in their heat in 3 minutes 02.67 seconds behind the United States.

The women’s 4×100 meters team of Sherone Simpson Natasha Morrison, Sasha lee Forbes and Jonelle Smith made it to the final after placing second in heat in heat three in 43. 08 behind Germany.

The men’s team of nester carter, Julian forte Rasheed Dwyer and Tyquondo Tracey qualified after finishing third in their heat in 38. 51 seconds behind Great Britain and Brazil.

The mixed 4×400 meters team of Fitzroy Dunkley, Janieve Russell, Rhonda white and Jamari Rose made progress after clocking 3 minutes 18.47 seconds behind Belgium and Brazil.

However they failed to advance to the final.
