JUTC to set up special fire team following 3rd bus fire in a week

by May 17th, 2019

In the wake of three of its buses being impacted by fire in the last seven days, the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) will be establishing special fire teams across its depots, to assess and monitor the company’s fleet.

The decision follows an emergency meeting held by the management of the company, this morning (May 17).

Corporate Communications Manager at the JUTC Cecil Thoms, says issues arising from the fires were discussed, and plans put in place to prevent a recurrence.

The state-run bus company says, last night’s fire is suspected to have been caused by an oil leak, and that the bus will be back in operation in a few days.

Last night’s bus fire occurred metres away from the previous fire on Tuesday night, which the JUTC says, was the result of arson.
