Cops charged in Spanish Town incident remanded

by May 20th, 2019

The 2 police corporals charged in relation to the fatal shooting and accident in Spanish Town, St. Catherine last month, were remanded when they appeared before the Home Circuit Court today (May 20).

The accused cops – Corporals Kirk Frazer and Rhamone Scott – are facing several charges, including shooting with intent and manslaughter.

The charges stem from 2 incidents on April 28, in which civilian Sheldon Daley was shot dead at an event in Chedwin Park, and the subsequent car chase, shoot out and car crash along Brunswick Avenue / Job Lane, that resulted in the death of civilian Kevron Burrell.

A third policeman, Corporal Rohan Williams, who was travelling with the two accused cops, died during the incident.

In court today, Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn said several documents were outstanding, as well as the post mortem and ballistics report.
Meantime, defense attorney Valerie Neita Robertson, who is representing Corporal Fraser, applied for the media to be barred from reporting certain details of the case, but Justice Crescencia Brown ruled that the application was premature.

The cops have been remanded until July 2, when it is expected that a bail application will be made.
