Holness orders JCF to review risk factors relating to murder/suicide cases involving police

by May 31st, 2019

The Jamaica Constabulary Force is to undertake a study to identify risk factors and trends associated with police officers killing close family members, and themselves.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has ordered the study, in response to recent cases of murder suicide involving members of the force.

He says this is part of efforts to integrate well-fare into the administration of the force.

The Prime Minister argues that addressing the mental health of officers will increase the morale and loyalty among members, which will in turn, create a stronger police force.

He says there is a need for greater pastoral and counselling services for members of the JCF.

The Prime Minister was addressing the Jamaica Police Federation’s 76th Annual Joint Central Conferences, in Ocho Rios, St. Ann, on Wednesday.
