Discovery Bay community group loses bid to halt development of dolphin cove facility

by June 8th, 2019

The Discovery Bay Community Development Committee (CDC) has lost its bid to reverse the development of a dolphin cove facility at Puerto Seco beach.

On Friday, the Supreme Court refused to grant leave to the CDC for a judicial review of the licences granted to the operators of the dolphin cove, by NEPA and the NRCA.
The CDC had objected to the construction of the dolphin cove facility, claiming that the area is a fish sanctuary and that excrement from the dolphins pose a health threat.

However, the court ruled that there was no merit to the application.

The court also denied an application to appeal its ruling.

Meanwhile, President of the CDC Lee Arbouin said in a statement that despite the court’s ruling, all is not lost, and that the fight will continue.

She described the court ruling as disappointing, but indicated that it will not deter the group from a fight that is based on morality, and based on preserving the environment against greed and a lack of foresight.
