Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo set a new 300metres world best at today’s (Jun 20) 58th edition of the Golden Spike in Ostrava, the Czech Republic, an IAAF World Challenge Meeting.

Miller-Uibo, in the rarely contested 300metres, got off to an excellent start and entered the straight with a clear lead. She powered down the straight to stop the clock in 34.41secs to beat previous world best of 35.30, which was set by Ana Guevara at altitude in Mexico City in 2003.

The Olympic champion is the world leader with 49.05secs, which makes her the overwhelming favourite for this year’s World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Steven Gardiner, another Bahamian, outclassed the field in the men’s 400metres to take victory in 44.95secs. Bahrain’s Abbas Abubaker was a distant second in 45.86.
