Man who killed JC student gets life imprisonment

by July 27th, 2019

The man accused of killing a Jamaica college student 3 years ago in Kingston, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Quacie Hart had pleaded guilty to the murder of 14-year-old student Nicholas Francis.

In passing sentence yesterday in the Home Circuit Court Justice Lorna Shelly Williams said Hart is to serve 31 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.

Francis was fatally stabbed on a minibus on October 26, 2016.

Allegations are that while the bus was travelling towards Half Way Tree, Hart held onto Francis and attempted to rob the teen of his wristwatch, but Francis resisted.

When the bus reached close to Jamaica College, Hart took Francis’ knapsack and threw it outside the bus.

Francis was in the process of retrieving his bag when Hart stabbed him several times.

The boy died while undergoing treatment at hospital.

The killing had sparked public outrage and Hart surrendered to the police three days after the incident.
