Edu Min implements stricter monitoring measures for procurement

by July 31st, 2019

Stricter monitoring measures have been implemented at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, in relation to resource management and procurement.

Minister with responsibility for Education Karl Samuda made the announcement today while giving his contribution to the sectoral debate.

The enforced measures come in the wake of a damming report from the Auditor General, regarding breach of procurement guidelines, in the awarding of contracts, some to the Caribbean Maritime University, for school construction, maintenance and repairs.

The Auditor General also identified breaches and management lapses, in relation to textbooks and furniture for schools.

It was found that the contracts were said to be emergency cases, when they were not.

Samuda said steps have been taken to ensure compliance with procurement regulations, as no breach will be tolerated.

This includes a bi-monthly monitoring system, for infrastructure projects.
