Ombudsman writes to PNP Basil Waite about his unfavourable comments regarding JLP supporters

by August 5th, 2019

Political Ombudsman Donna Parchment Brown has intervened, on the request of Generation Two Thousand (G2K) in a matter related to comments made by Deputy General Secretary of the People’s National Party Basil Waite.

G2K, the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party today condemned the comments by Waite and lodged a complaint with the Office of the Political Ombudsman.

G2K President Stephen Edwards, in his letter to Donna Parchment Brown, described the comments made on a political platform in St. Elizabeth on July 21 about JLP supporters, as highly unacceptable and unbecoming.

According to G2K that incident is the latest in a series of detestable public statements made by spokespersons for the PNP that have seemingly gone unaddressed by the PNP’s leadership.

Mr. Edwards states that G2K is seeking the intervention of the Ombudsman, as the comments trample on the principles of political tolerance and respect.

Meantime, Mrs. Parchment Brown acknowledges receipt of the letter and has written to Waite.

She says she also heard a recording of the comments complained about by G2K.
