Dancehall gets attention from Prime Minister Andrew Holness

by September 9th, 2019

It could never be the intention of the government in any way to stifle the culture which is necessary for the development of our people,” says Prime Minister Andrew Holness at the renaming of Gordon Town Square, Miss Lou Square on Sunday.

The Prime Minister’s comments come after industry players started a social media campaign dubbed ‘Stop Fight Events’ urging the dancehall community to unite in a bid to protect the music, and culture, against the Noise Abatement Act.

Prime Minister Holness further stated that he hears the cries from the dancehall community, sound system operators and entertainers.

Prime Minister Holness said the state is also looking into establishing special entertainment zones.

Entertainers, Selectors, Sound system operators, and dancehall lovers are lobbying for an amendment to the Noise Abatement Act which will see events go beyond the 2:00 am lock-off.
