Rapper Wiley barred from releasing track featuring PopCaan

by September 13th, 2019

Some dancehall fans who may have been looking forward to the release of a track featuring British rapper Wiley, rapper Nicki Minaj, and dancehall deejay Popcaan, have been left high and dry.

According to rapper Wiley, the song has not been cleared for release by Drake’s OVO Sound, the label responsible for Popcaan.

In a Twitter rant on Thursday, rapper Wiley shared that he has been barred from releasing the track. “They said they won’t clear your verse” he tweeted at Popcaan, before calling Canadian rapper Drake a culture vulture. Wiley then stated that he feels like he is being held back and that those who need permission, should avoid working with him in the future.

In August, Wiley announced what he dubbed would be a hit collaboration ‘Bad Like We,’ with expected features from Popcaan and Nicki Minaj. On Friday morning, Wiley again tweeted, “update, we move forward without Popcaan and shoot this video,” suggesting that Nicki Minaj will still be a part of the project.

The song ‘Bad Like We’ was scheduled to be released today September 13, as a single off his upcoming album ‘Full Circle.’
