Opposition raises questions about Petrojam board getting 4 additional members

by September 20th, 2019

Opposition spokesman on Energy Phillip Paulwell, has called on his government counterpart, to explain why the Petrojam board of directors has been expanded without any public announcement.

In a statement today, Mr. Paulwell, said by way of a Cabinet decision, dated August 26, and communicated to the company on September 2, the minister expanded the board from its original membership by four persons.

The new directors include Robert Clarke, Alecia Bish, Edwardo Mendl, and Amilkar Mata.

Mr. Paulwell said he has since learnt that 2 of the new board members live overseas, and this matter of having overseas board members was a cause for concern with the previous Board Chairman Perceval Bahado-Singh.

He called on Energy Minister Fayval Williams to state if Petrojam was again paying travel and other expenses for these directors, in contravention of new rules announced recently by the Prime Minister.

Meantime, Paulwell reiterated the call for a forensic audit at the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ).

The spokesman also expressed shock at comments from the Chairman of the Public Sector Transformation Committee, Danny Roberts, that the grouping was unaware of government’s plans to close the PCJ.
