Climate Strike in Cockpit Country

by September 20th, 2019

Scores of students, residents, environmentalists and other stakeholders from across the island took a stance in support of the environment today as Jamaica joined the world in observance of Global Climate Strike day.

The organizers of Jamaica’s climate strike staged the event in Stewart Town Trelawny and   used the initiative to raise awareness about the threats posed to the Cockpit Country, if mining is allowed.

Irie FM’s Mutabaruka spoke with some students who turned out to support the initiative.

Meantime, environmentalist Wendy Lee says the forests of the Cockpit Country must be protected as they are an important part of Jamaica’s efforts to mitigate climate change.

Miss Lee notes that forests must also be protected to conserve the wildlife that thrives within them.
