Electronic warrants system for traffic tickets soon to be implemented

by September 21st, 2019

Electronic warrants will be a feature of the revamped traffic ticket management system, to be rolled out, in another week.

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang, says over the years, there has been a gradual decline in the traffic ticket system’s effectiveness, resulting in some motorists taking advantage of the deficiencies, and displaying a nonchalant attitude, towards traffic violations.

He noted that in some instances, motorists are turning up before the courts, with a thousand unpaid traffic tickets.

Within the last two weeks, police have arrested two public passenger vehicle operators, who had over one thousand unpaid traffic tickets and three others who had up to 272 unpaid tickets.

The National Security Minister has vowed to fix the traffic system, and hold motorists accountable, when the law is breached.

Dr. Chang said technical teams are working out the final details in the system to come on stream in October.

He said electronic warrants will be issued under the new enforcement system.
