NWA closes 2 roadways following impact from heavy rains

by September 27th, 2019

Job’s Lane in St. Catherine has been closed to vehicular access, due to flooding and a collapsed culvert.

The National Works Agency says, several other roadways remain impassable due to inundation, and fallen trees, following heavy rains over the past 3 days.

NWA Communications Manager Stephen Shaw says efforts to clear some roads have been hampered by the continuing rain.

He says the Windsor to Aberdeen road in St. Elizabeth is affected by ponding.

And, the National Works Agency says the main road from lower Chapelton to Rock River in Clarendon has been closed with immediate effect.

The road is one of several in the parish that were impacted by heavy rains over the last five days.

Manager of Communication and customer services at the NWA Stephen Shaw says that the decision to close the road was made following another inspection late this afternoon.

A section of the road broke away during the heavy rains, while a retaining wall also collapsed.

Mr. Shaw says the two failures along the road have resulted in serious dangers being posed to the motoring public who may decide to use the corridor.

He is advising that person inconvenienced by the closure of the main road from lower Chapelton to Rock River, use the alternative route through turners.
