Members of the entertainment industry locally and internationally continue to flood social media platforms with messages of condolence following the sudden death of Louie Rankin.

The Jamaican born Grammy-award winning entertainer famous for his role as Ox in the movie “Belly” died in a car crash in Ontario, Canada on Monday.

Louie Rankin starred alongside Nas and DMX in the 1998 crime drama “Belly” where he played a Jamaican Kingpin called Ox.

He was best known for his profound performance as Teddy Bruckshut in “Shottas” in 2002 which also featured Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz. His other films included 2014’s “We Run These Streets” and most recent, “The Intent II” a Netflix original movie that also featured PopCaan.

Sizzla, Vybz Kartel, PopCaan, Ky-Mani Marley, Shaggy, Tarrus Riley, and Bugle are among the slew of entertainers who have sent messages of condolence via social media.

PopCaan via Instagram said; “Legends don’t die!!!! It is very unfortunate what happened to you fam but God knows best. rest up fada Louie your memories are forever..!!! @louie_rankin.”

Meanwhile, his Shottas co-stars Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz express disbelief at his sudden passing.

Other social media reactions came from DJ Khaled, Swizz Beats, Jabba, and Steflon Don.

Louie Rankin was also a Jamaican dancehall deejay. In 1992, he released the song “Typewriter,” which won a Grammy.

Louie Rankin was born Leonard Forbes in St, Thomas, Jamaica, and grew up in the Rockfort, Waurika Hill and East Kingston areas.
