Ruel Reid and co accused granted bail

Former Education Minister Ruel Reid and four others who are implicated in the Education Ministry / Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) corruption case were granted bail when they appeared before the Kingston and St Andrew parish court, this morning.

 

Reid, his wife Sharen, their 24 year old daughter Sharell, CMU President Professor Fritz Pinnock, and Councillor of the Brown’s Town Division, Kim Brown-Lawrence who were yesterday charged in relation to various illegal acts had their bail application granted by senior parish judge Vaughn Smith.

 

Ruel Reid, who was charged for possession of criminal property, engaging in transactions involving criminal property, conspiracy to defraud, misconduct in a public office at common law and corruption was granted bail in the sum of $3 m, dollars with surety.

 

His wife who was also charged with conspiracy to defraud and possession of criminal property was granted bail in the sum of $1 m, with surety.

 

While their daughter Sharell, who was charged with conspiracy to defraud and possession of criminal property was offered bail at 500 thousand dollars with surety.

 

They were ordered to report to the Matildas corner police station on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

 

Meantime, Pinnock who was charged with conspiracy to defraud, engaging in transactions involving criminal property, misconduct in a public office at common law and corruption, among others was granted bail at 2 million dollars with surety.

 

Judge Vaughn Smith in granting the bail ordered that the accused visit the Greater Portmore police station on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

 

Meantime, Brown-Lawrence was offered bail in the sum of $1 m, with surety.

 

She is to report to the browns town police station on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

 

All the accused are to surrender their travel documents, and are not to be seen on the premises of the c-m-u or the education ministry.

 

The judge also ordered that their fingerprints be taken.

 

They are to return to court on January 23, 2020.
