Chuck withdraws statement

by October 10th, 2019

Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has withdrawn comments he made yesterday relating to the MOCA operations and investigations involving the education ministry and the Caribbean Maritime University.

Chuck had chastised the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) for the manner in which early morning raids were conducted, resulting in the arrest and charge of former Education Minister Ruel Reid, his wife and daughter, as well as CMU President Fritz Pinnock, and Councillor for the Browns Town division Kim Brown Lawrence.

Following the comments, the opposition and others raised concern about the stance taken by the minister, and also cited a conflict of interest, in relation to his daughter being the attorney representing the Reid family.

Concern was also raised about the impression made that the security forces work was in doubt, and that the government may intervene in the case.

In response to the concerns, chuck retracted his comments.
