The former national sprinter passed away yesterday, but it still remains unclear as to what led to his death after it was reported that he was found dead in downtown Kingston.

The former national sprinter the brother of veteran sports journalist bobby fray was a member of Jamaica’s 4×100 meters relay team which broke the World record with a 38.3 seconds clocking in the semi-finals at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico.

The 38.3 seconds clocking still stands as the world record for athletes under twenty-three years old.

Fray a graduate of St Andrew Technical High School, set a national junior college 200 metres record in 1967 while in the United States and was ranked number 10 in the world in the 200 meters in 1968 by Track & Field News Magazine.

Fray enjoyed success with the Jamaican relay team in other competitions, including a silver medal at the 1966 British Empire and commonwealth games (alongside Pablo McNeil) and a gold medal at the 1966 Central American and Caribbean games.

He also won a bronze medal in the 4×400 metre relay at the 1967 pan American games.
