Upset Scotia bank workers threaten to strike

by November 8th, 2019

Some workers at the Bank of Nova Scotia have reportedly threatened to take industrial action next week, if management fails to finalise wage negotiations with their trade union.

The Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) has indicated that wage talks have been ongoing for over a year, and staff have become restive.

BITU President Kavan Gayle said the workers have rejected the bank’s offer of a 4 % increase.

The union insists that the bank is able to pay its staff more.

Mr. Gayle added that employees are also upset about being over worked, as some branches of the bank are understaffed.

He said meetings are scheduled to be held with the banks management next Monday and Tuesday.
