A St. Ann man accused of pretending to be an employee of the Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) is to re-appear before the court, later this month.

Jason Walsh of Discovery Bay, was arrested by detectives from the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) last month.

He is facing a charge of obtaining money by means of false pretence.

Allegations are that in 2016, a businessman applied to the Firearm Licensing Authority for a firearm user’s licence.

Moca said during a meeting at FLA, he was informed by the interviewer that an investigator will make contact with him to continue the investigation process.

The complainant was later contacted by Walsh who told him that he was an investigator with FLA and was assigned to conduct further investigations regarding his application.

Further reports are that both parties met and Walsh conducted an inspection of the safe.

He also collected $75,000 from the complainant, which he promised to handover to the firearms dealer as payment for the firearm.

The complainant made a report to Moca, after efforts to contact Walsh failed.

During the investigation it was revealed that Walsh was never employed by the FLA nor was he authorized to conduct business on behalf of the entity.

Walsh was remanded in custody when he appeared before the St. Catherine parish court on Friday October 18.

He will return to court on Monday, November 18.
