Police officers found guilty of murder, manslaughter

Police constables Christobel Smith and Garrett Davis were found guilty for the offences of manslaughter and murder respectively in the Home Circuit Court yesterday.

 

The guilty verdicts were in relation to the fatal shooting of Omar Andre Marshall on October 9, 2008.

 

The matter was investigated by the internal investigation unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, formerly Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI).

 

A file was submitted to the office of the director of public prosecutions (DPP) who responded on July 22, 2014 that both constables be charged with the offence of murder.

 

On Tuesday, October 22, 2019, the trial in the matter commenced where constable smith’s murder charge was reduced to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

 

Smith and Davis are to reappear before Home Circuit Court on Monday, December 16, 2019, for sentencing.
