House Speaker to speak soon on AGD’s report on CMU

by January 15th, 2020

The Speaker of the House is to make an announcement prior to the next sitting of parliament, regarding the delay in the tabling of the Auditor General’s report on the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU).

This after the opposition raised concern as to why the auditor general’s report on alleged corruption at CMU was not tabled in parliament yesterday.

The issue was raised by Leader of Opposition Business, Dr. Morais Guy who noted that several other documents had been tabled, while questioning the absence of the CMU report.

Speaking on the matter at this morning’s post cabinet press briefing, information minister Karl Samuda said the house speaker will be addressing the delay.

While declining to say whether the delay in the tabling of the report was due to legal issues, Mr. Samuda sought to assure the public that the government is not trying to conceal anything in the report.

Some five persons including former Education Minister Ruel Reid and CMU President Professor Fritz Pinnock, are currently facing corruption and fraud charges in relation to the misappropriation of public funds at the education ministry and the CMU.
