by January 15th, 2020

Gender Affairs minister Olivia Grange has appealed for persons to utilise the domestic violence intervention centres, operated by the Jamaica Constabulary Force, which were created to deal with domestic violence.

The centres offer professional counselling, referrals to appropriate agencies, follow-ups with clients and credible and reliable information.

Counselling is provided by trained and certified volunteer counsellors and chaplains who are trained in handling domestic violence matters.

Speaking in parliament yesterday, grange expressed concern that many people still consider domestic violence to be a private issue.

She said the Bureau of Gender Affairs no excuse for abuse campaign continues to educate the public about domestic violence.

Ms. Grange added that the Bureau’s community liaison branch, conducts outreach activities to address the social issues affecting the public.

The minister pledged that efforts will continue to build more safe places for women, who flee toxic relationships.
