Former Edwin Allen High  standout Ackelia Smith is now the US Collegiate leader in the women’s triple jump. 

Smith, now attending the University of Texas, leapt 14.08 meters on her second attempt, to set a new NCAA’ West preliminary record, at the 2022 DI Outdoor Track and Field East and West preliminary meet on the weekend. 

The meet is a qualifier for the NC-Double a Outdoor Track and field championship set for June 8-11 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. 

In the meantime, national record holder Lamar Distin of Texas A & M University is ranked number one in the women’s high jump heading into the championship, while another Jamaican Stacy Ann Williams leads the qualification standings in the women’s 400 meters.
